Dear SAGA Members, Gas Practitioners and SGES Equipment Permit Holders
The majority of POPIA’s sections commenced on 1 July 2020, with sections 110 (Amendment of laws) and 114(4) (Transitional arrangements) of POPIA only commencing on 30 June 2021.
Companies have until 30 June 2021 within which to comply with its provisions. POPIA regulates inter alia how entities should collect, use, disclose and store personal information, both inside the Republic of South Africa and cross-border.
Non-compliance with POPIA will have serious consequences including fines, civil action, reputational damage and customers’ and employees’ loss of trust. It is accordingly critical to identify practical strategies which can be implemented easily and are aligned to the operations of your business.
Taking the above into account, SAGA has been implementing POPIA policies and processes in order to comply to the statutory requirements.
It will be encouraging for persons engaging with SAGA to be comfortable as to the protection of personal information which will be ensured by end June 2021 and to which all entrusted information will be secured and protected henceforth.
Yours in Compliance and Safety
